encourage kids to walk before they have the muscle strength and coordination developed should be avoided. Regardless of what stage your child is in we are here to help them stay healthy and recover from falls or issues they may have as they crawl and walk. The best good thing about having your child adjusted is that it doesn't take long for them to get better. Kids respond well to chiropractic and often when they come back to get checked they don't need adjusted as their previous adjustment did the job well!
When your child begins to crawl their spine is beginning to form the curvatures and arches in the wrist and hand which are needed for fine movements and coordination as well as spinal function. During this time it is also good to have your child checked as they bump into things and to make sure they are developing correctly. Watch your child to see if there is anything abnormal in their crawling (only using hands to crawl, favoring one side, skipping crawling completely are all signs that there is a potential for subluxations) Infants need this time strengthening muscles in their torso, shoulders, arms legs and hands and to fully develop their spine. This is why contrary to popular belief walking too soon is not something parents should strive for. A child should spend a few months crawling to fully develop before they walk. Chiropractic care is so important to a healthy immune system and Betterton Chiropractic is the best!
Dr. Matt is an amazing chiropractor! We are so lucky to have the best in our town!! We had such a fussy baby and he has done a tremendous job getting her adjusted. He explained everything he was doing as I was very nervous about it.
He also does a great job with my back. I have spondylolisthesis, a spinal disorder in which a vertebra slips forward onto the bone below it. Even when I was pregnant and my back pain got worse, he helped.
Chiropractic care for kids is important as the Road to lifelong health starts at the beginning of life
Chiropractic care for Infants and Toddlers
Caring for newborn is where lifelong health begins as Dr. Matt has seen kids as young as a couple hours after being born! Many wonder why a newborn would need a chiropractor, but the truth is we all begin life with a spine that protects those vital messages that are sent throughout the body from the brain and spinal cord. An infant’s nervous system is very delicate as it is still developing, so the slightest misalignment can produce symptoms. The birthing process can be really hard on a newborn as they’re neck can take a lot of the strain as they are being pushed out of the birth canal. That is why it is very beneficial to have Dr. Matt check to see if there is any misalignment that may be interfering with the messages that the nervous system is sending. If there is no misalignments, then he will tell you he doesn’t need to adjust your baby. This is because not adjusting when it is not needed it is almost as important as giving one when it is. We also give recommendations for any nutritional and lifestyle changes to ensure the health of your family!
Kids and growing teenagers
As your child grows and begins to become active in school and extra curricular activities chiropractic care is still important in sustaining optimum health. The power of the body is amazing, so by keeping the connections between the brain and body working at 100% the body can achieve amazing things! Kids at this age may roll an ankle or fall on their wrist, so it is important to note that chiropractors work with more than the spine! Chiropractic care can help with ankles, shoulders, wrists, and more. Often, just by keeping proper connections from the spinal nerves can help kids recover faster, but sometimes a bone can be misalign in various joints throughout the body and those can be assessed and adjusted as well! Keeping kids adjusted every couple of months can also leave them less susceptible to injury and improve overall health.
